Ms. Kelly Douglas - ARAD, T. Dip. - Principal
Vancouver trained dancer and teacher Kelly Douglas has studied at Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, the Banff School of Fine Arts, and Les Grands Ballet Canadians. While dancing professionally with Alberta Ballet Company, she performed in The Nutcracker, Firebird, Allegro Brillante, Coppelia and Cinderella.
Upon returning to Vancouver, Miss Douglas studied for and received the Royal Academy of Dance teaching diploma in 1990 and was elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Dancing. This qualifies her to teach the syllabus of the Academy and to enter children of all levels for the Academy’s examinations. Kelly is also a member of the Imperial Society of Teaching Dance. In 2006 Kelly was appointed mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance, helping to train younger teachers.
Kelly has also choreographed and performed in independent dance projects such as Vancouver’s 12 Minutes Max and Dancing on the Edge as well as the Sunshine Coast’s annual Celebration of Dance. Miss Douglas was a guest teacher each summer in Malibu, California at Ballet By The Sea studio for seven years.
Part of Miss Douglas’s ongoing commitment to expose students to performing opportunities have included organizing a two week tour to Spain in 2000 and a weeks performing cruise to Alaska in 2004. In 2006 she organized a workshop and performance tour to Disneyland, California, and in 2007 Miss Douglas enabled performance division students to compete internationally at a competition in Seattle. In 2008 she and other staff members accompanied a group of students to New York for professional workshops and classes.
Ms. Douglas was proud that the studio recently received 2 awards from the Burnaby Now and the Burnaby News newspapers for the “Best Place to Dance in Burnaby".
Anita DeSiena - Ballet
Anita has been studying dance since the age of five and recently achieved her Advanced 1 award with RAD. As well as instruction in classical ballet and character, Anita has also studied Contemporary, Jazz and Tap. Anita has been a long term member of the Douglas Ballet Performance group, competing in many local festivals and performing at Disneyland. Anita is currently enrolled in her second year of the Royal Academy of Dance teacher training program with a view to becoming a dance teacher as well as studying early childhood education.
Meagan Ekelund – Ballet, Tap, Musical Theatre
Meagan has been dancing since the age of 5 and is extensively trained in RAD Ballet as well as jazz, tap, lyrical/contemporary and musical theatre. She is also a graduate from the Musical Theatre Program at Capilano University. Meagan has performed in many different shows around the Vancouver area including the upcoming production of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Gateway Theater. Other credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie (TUTS), Guys and Dolls (Gateway Theater), A Year With Frog and Toad (Gemini Theater),Graziella in West Side Story(RCMT), Lily St. Regis in Annie(Footlight Productions), Euphoria(Paperbag Productions), Oklahoma (TUTS), 42nd Street (RCMT), Les Belles Soeurs (Exit 22 Productions), Children Of Eden (Exit 22 Productions),Nine (Arbutus Theatre Productions), Charlottes Web The Musical (Exit 22 Productions), Into The Woods (Exit 22 Productions), Crazy For You (TUTS), A Chorus Line (StageWest Dinner Theatre). She is currently in her second year of the Royal Academy of Dance teacher training program.
Missy Martin - Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre
Missy has been teaching dance for 15 years and she has been studying dance for 25 years, first in Prince George at Judy Russell's Dance Studio and then at Arts Umbrella in Vancouver. While dancing professionally, Missy took the lead role of Clara in The Nutcracker with Edmund Kilpatrick of Ballet B.C. She also performed in Josie and the Pussycats alongside Tara Reid, Rosario Dawn and Leigh Cook. She danced in the movie Life or Something Like It with Angelina Jolie, the NBC T.V. show American Dreams, Disney's Animatrix and a Macy's commercial.
Missy has choreographed performances for the Molson Indy and many local promotional shows, and currently teaches the R.A.D. method of ballet as well as jazz and tap. Missy also danced in the movie Totally Awesome with Chris Kattan from Saturday Night Live. She recently performed in The Russian Queens at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
Heather Price - Ballet
Heather began her dance training at the age of four under the Cecchetti Method, continuing with RAD from the age of eight. Heather achieved her Advanced 1 exam and has trained to Advanced 2 level. Heather has been teaching ballet as well as other forms of dance including Modern, Jazz and Tap, for the past six years. Whilst at University in London Ontario Heather had the privilege to train with Dale Yoshida, former principal with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Heather obtained her Certificate in ballet Teaching studies in November 2008. This qualifies her, amongst other things, to enter students into the Royal Academy examinations. She is also enrolled at UBC in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science with a view to becoming a certified Pharmacist.
Kathryn Kazun - Street Jazz
Kathryn has been studying dance from an early age. A former student of Douglas Ballet Academy, Kathryn is an accomplished ballet dancer who of recent years has made Street Jazz her focus. She has lately been a member of The Source dance troupe, and takes classes at Harbour Dance Studio.
Angela King - Preschool Ballet, Musical Theatre, Tap
A student of Douglas Ballet since the age of 8, Angela has studied many dance styles. She has extensive training in ballet, jazz, tap, stage, and musical theatre. Angela has been a teacher's assistant at the studio for a number of years. Angela has competed in many local dance competitions as well as attending different dance conventions and workshops throughout the Lower Mainland and in the States. She performed in the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. She has also appeared in many musical theatre productions including Aladdin, High School Musical 2, and Singing In The Rain. Angela is the recipient of various scholarships and awards for merit. As well as dance, Angela is also a accomplished pianist and vocalist.
Angelas is excited to be a part of DBA's teaching team and is thrilled to share her passion and love for dance with children.
Leslie Wilson - Irish
Leslie has trained and taught with the Violet Moore School of Irish Dancing for over 20 years. She has participated in numerous festivals, performances and competitions including the World Championships in 1985. Leslie successfully completed the Irish Dancing Commission’s teacher’s exam (T.C.R.G) in California in January, 2000.
